Perkasie, PA - On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, all eyes were on Blooming Glen Contractors, Inc.’s (BGC’s) SR0563 paving crew as they began scheduled paving of this critical east-west State Route in upper Bucks County. The Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Association (PAPA) & Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) 2017 Bus Tour program stopped for general observation and discussion of this awarded PennDOT paving project (Group 06-16 BD5 ECMS #107377). Two separate tour groups from PAPA/PennDOT got a firsthand look at the paving process as BGC’s paving team marched eastward along SR0563, with work on the beginning and mid-sections of the project commencing.
BGC lay down a perfect course of high-quality Superpave asphalt that was supplied for the project by affiliate company, H&K Materials, in Chalfont, PA. The project work consists of milling out and replacing the existing asphalt, removing the top layer to a specified and even depth without disturbing the underlying subbase. This allows BGC to lay down a brand-new, pristine layer of asphalt to improve the commute quality for Bucks County’s citizens. This process ensures that curbs, drainage and other existing structures remain undisturbed. Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
